I Shall Wear Midnight

December 21, 2010

Who is one of the bestselling contemporary authors most Americans haven’t read? Yes, it’s Terry Pratchett, a humorous British fantasy writer. The Wee Free Men is the first in this series for teens featuring the young witch Tiffany and the Mac Feegles, who are tiny, fierce Celtic fairies. Pratchett’s books are generally quite funny, but also make me think. In the latest book, Tiffany senses that something isn’t quite right; people are becoming suspicious of witches, instead of being grateful that they help out wherever needed, including nursing and flying errands, not just doing magic. As the baron’s son, Roland, prepares to marry, his fiancee’s mother, a Duchess, makes trouble for Tiffany and the Mac Feegles, her self-appointed protectors.
