Tree climbing championship in Lisle

July 31, 2010

Flooding at Morton Arboretum

Last weekend, the Morton Arboretum in Lisle held the 34th annual International Tree Climbing Championship competition. It was to be a 2 day competition. This is the view on Day 1, in an area normally 30 feet from the river. Heavy rains Friday night had caused the Dupage River to overflow and flood the Arboretum, and closed part of the nearby state highway. So, the competition was squeezed into Sunday, and spectators were shuttled past the floods. We watched part of the speed climbing competition, and the women’s Master’s Challenge, which was slow paced but fascinating to watch. Video highlights and photos will be available soon at the ISA website. The weather was very nice for a change, and there was plenty of shade under the tall oak trees in the Daffodil glade.
