Bullfrog Lake

A week ago, my husband and I drove to Meadow Lake, a Cook County forest preserve. It’s a nice big lake, with lots of families fishing on the holiday weekend. But there isn’t a path that goes all the way around the lake, and there is lots of litter. So it was pleasant, but not what we’d hoped. Just a couple blocks away was a sign for another forest preserve, Bullfrog Lake. The lake didn’t look very big on our map, but we decided to check it out. It’s just beautiful, with no litter, and just hikers and cyclists. Very undeveloped, except for a few picnic tables and a trail. We couldn’t tell if the trail went all the way around the lake, but it was so pretty we went for a walk. It turned out to be a 3-4 mile hike around the lake, up hills into the woods, and by a couple of sloughs, or marshes. We didn’t have a map, so just hoped we were going the right way and would end up near our car. This picture is taken as we came out of the woods,up on a hill, looking down at the lake. Very pretty, peaceful, and with a nice breeze, welcome on a 90 degree day.
